In 1977, my work on a motivation notebook for the football coaching staff at North Dakota State University resulted in a collection of sayings and poems, including a poem title, “The Gospel According to You.” The word gospel means “good news” and we are all familiar with the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of those gospels represents a faithful account of the life of Jesus written from the perspective of his closest friends.
In its eight short lines, “The Gospel According to You” presents the idea that each of us can live in faith, which then becomes the gospel that other people see. Our words and lives have an effect on the faith of others. Our example matters!
The Gospel According to You
You are writing a gospel,
A chapter each day.
By deeds that you do,
By words that you say.
Men read what you write,
Whether faithless or true.
Say! What is the gospel
According to you?
As I look back at my life, I can see God’s fingerprint in every season and place. My life is a testimony to faith. God provided far beyond what I could have ever imagined, and each step of faith laid the foundation for the next. He knew the plans he had for my family and me.
Action Step:
Write down your testimony of good news (gospel) that others see in you. What you write is what others see and feel. Your good news. Your testimony of faith!
